Who’s behind BaconHandup.com?

Well, good question. I (that’s me, Warwick Patterson) guess I am the main bacon hander-upper.
I started racing mountain bikes in 1994, with my first Junior Beginner race at the NORBA/World Cup joint event at Mt. Snow, Vermont. I locked bar ends at the start line with some other poor sod and we both watched the pack take off with our faces in the dirt. None the less, I was hooked and I kept racing both XC and DH until about 2001. Amid my floundering Sport-category racing ‘career’ I also took a lot of photos. Turns out, this is where I had some talent. I moved to British Columbia for university and have been a working professional photographer and video producer ever since. I spent many years on the World Cup and Freeride circuit making films (The Circus, RISE, Halfway to Nowhere) and reporting/photographing for media outlets. I operated a pretty successful website called DHrace.com for many years too.
Then race cars called my name and I went adventuring into the world of rally and race car photography, where I’ve mostly been ever since. I was burned out on bikes and found I enjoyed riding my bikes even more once I removed myself from “the industry”.
But the itch is there. My life revolved around bikes for so many years that I’m still a “bike person”. With my discovery of road riding last year, and a new-found level of fitness, I’ve found new passion for bikes. Cyclocross has piqued my interest as a great mid-point between road and mountain biking. I’ve also found that a lot of the “old” mountain bike crew are here racing cyclocross!
So here we go…a place for stories, photos, videos, and cyclocross fun. Be sure to grab some bacon on your way by!
